Lonnie Ray Baxter, Jr. age 68, passed away May 1, 2017. He was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County and retired after 19 years of service at Nissan. He continued the family tradition of stone masonry and was an accomplished woodworker. Lonnie was of the apostolic faith and was the church organist at Believers Tabernacle. Lonnie was an organist at various churches for over 50 years. He was a student of Margaret Wright while attending Middle Tennessee State University.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his father, William Ray Baxter and sister-in-law, Billie Baxter. He is survived by his mother, Susie Emma Baxter; wife, Angelina Yates Baxter; daughters, Susanna (Rick) Haynes of Shelbyville, Carolina (Bradley) Gore of Murfreesboro, Melissa Joy Baxter of Murfreesboro; brothers, Allen Baxter, Benny Baxter; sister, Linda (Jessie) Jones; grandson, Garrison Baxter Gore; and many loving family members.
Visitation with the family will be 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, May 4. Visitation will also be 1 pm – 2 pm, Friday, May 5, at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home.
Chapel service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 5, at Jennings and Ayers with Pastor Joseph Hamid officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery with family serving as active pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, Lonnie requested that mission donations be made to Voice of God Recordings, Inc.
